WVSU suspends classes due to Dengue scare
West Visayas State University (WVSU) in La Paz district is suspending its classes in the elementary level starting today until July 10, Friday, to give way to a massive fumigation of the campus following the reported increase in the number of pupils affected by Dengue fever.
Meanwhile, classes in the high school and college levels will be suspended only for today. It will resume tomorrow, July 9.
Reports have it that a number of elementary pupils were sent home yesterday after they were found to be feverish. A few pupils were also reported to have been hospitalized since last week.
An announcement was posted in conspicuous places inside the campus yesterday afternoon informing parents in the elementary of the suspension of classes.
The announcement adds that classes in the elementary will resume on July 13.
Reportedly, a number of parents immediately brought their children home after learning of the announcement on the suspension of classes.
Earlier, a private school also in La Paz district suspended its classes for ten days following concerns of either Dengue or A(H1N1) as many of its students showed flu-like symptoms.
Parents of the said private school with mostly Filipino-Chinese students were informed last Thursday. The suspension of classes immediately began Friday with classes set to resume next Monday, July 13th.
