CHO confirms suspension of classes in several private schools
BACOLOD CITY -- The City Health Office (CHO) issued yesterday a consolidated report relative to the suspension of classes imposed by various schools since last week.
Sanitary Inspector Teresita Gonzales said that based on their monitoring report, at least seven private schools decided to suspend classes because many students experienced fever and coughs.
Gonzales said that after St. John Institute and the University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos (UNO-R), other schools that also suspended their classes were La Consolacion College, St. Joseph High School, Bacolod Christian Center, Trinity Christian School and Jack and Jill School.
Gonzales said La Consolacion College suspended their classes last July 6, 2009 because 150 of their students had fever and coughs. In the case of St. Joseph High School, it was reported that their classes were suspended last Tuesday because 172 of their students were absent.
Bacolod Christian School will resume tomorrow their classes after 146 of their students showed symptoms of occasional flu. Trinity Christian School will resume classes next week after 130 of their students also experience flu symptoms.
Gonzales said the Jack and Jil School also suspended their classes because 79 of their students got flu.
Gonzales clarified that it was not yet confirmed if what the students experienced is Influenza A(H1N1).
The said schools' management are currently undergoing clean-up drive by disinfecting their various rooms. Other schools that did not suspend their classes but undergoing some preventive measures were Bacolod Tay Tung High School, University of St. La Salle (USLS) and St. Scholastical Academy.
On other hand, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that there's nothing to be alarmed with the situation. He said the suspension of classes will only heightened the awareness of every students as far as precautionary measures is concerned.
