City gov’t eyes flying squad to crack down colorum trikes
ROXAS CITY – City Mayor Vicente Bermejo said that the city government will form a flying squad to crack down on colorum tricycles that are still illegally plying their routes in the city.
Bermejo said the publication of the anti-colorum ordinance is about to finish, after which its implementation will kick off.
The mayor said that the ordinance targets 1,500 colorum tricycles in the city.
Penalties in the said ordinance, are the following: 1st offense, P1,500; 2nd offense, P3,000; and 3rd offense, P5,000 and the colorum tricycle will be impounded.
According to Bermejo, the flying squad which is tasked to apprehend colorum tricycles will be composed of representatives from the Tricycle Franchising and Regulatory Unit (TFRU), several tricycle operator and driver’s associations (TODAs), police and several others.
“I hope that these 3,500 tricycle franchise holders will back me up since these 1,500 colorum will no longer support me in the next election,” Bermejo quipped, adding that he protects the interest of the legal franchise holders.
Meanwhile, the mayor said that the 20% development fund of the city government amounting to P57 million was approved by the City Development Council (CDC) during the meeting last week.
Of the P57 million 20% development fund, P32.3 million will be spent to general public services; P19 million for social services and P5.7 million for economic services.
