2-day transport strike that went pfft
The two-day transport strike in Iloilo July 13 and 14, that would pressure the government to maintain or lower gasoline prices did not really realize its good purpose. While gasoline establishments in other developed countries respect government power with respect to gasoline and crude prices, in the Philippines drivers are doubtful on the sincerity of the government to help them lower gasoline/crude prices due to the deregulation law on gasoline.
Why don't gasoline establishments respect government pressure, if any? Many believe that the law on deregulation of gasoline was passed by the lower house of Congress due to hundred and one reasons. Many know that vested interest still plays a major role in both the government and the private sector on gasoline law passage. Until the current Congress is changed, the law on gasoline/crude oil will remain as the hands of corrupt politicians reportedly influence the prices of gasoline in the country.
The two-day transport strike did not bring major transport groups to unity. The PISTON drivers did join the city and province-wide transport strike while the ICADA drivers keep rolling their wheels on the streets. The PISTON spokesman said that they are looking to the welfare of the commuters, students and employees. The ICADA drivers are hoping that the gasoline establishments will not abuse their privilege of the government's law on oil by increasing prices, when world oil prices are lower.
Unless and until the transport organizations are united, the aim of pressuring the government to require oil/crude establishments in the Philippines to increasing their black gold product is defeated. Why are administration congressmen adamant to repeal or revise the Oil Deregulation Law? Many believe that once the oil law is abolished or revised, the grease oil reportedly flowing the pockets of corrupt lawmakers will also stop. Our hungry and corrupt lawmakers are not contented with GMA's alleged millions of pesos given to them. Voters sold their votes on election day! Remember you are still accountable to God!
