Aklan Gov pushes for gun-free Boracay
BORACAY Island -- Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez has asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to confiscate the firearms being carried by the security guards stationed in various resorts in the island.
Marquez said the move was an offshoot of the order of the Police Regional Office VI of making the resort island as a gun-free tourism destination.
“Although I have not yet received a copy of the memorandum from the PNP, it should have been immediately implemented and I wanted the police to do it as soon as possible,” Marquez said.
Stakeholders in this resort island have been calling for peace and order due to the continuing land dispute, increasing robbery incidents and indiscriminate firing of guns.
The regional police has declared Boracay and the nearby province of Guimaras as a gun-free zone being a premier tourism destination in the country. (PNA)
