DTI-Capiz sets study tour of OTOP sites
ROXAS CITY – A showcase of best practices will be featured by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Office in a study tour on July 16 to successful One Town One Product (OTOP) sites in Ivisan town and Roxas City areas.
The various sites for the day-long tour include Talon Integrated Farm at Barangay Talon, Roxas City; Capiz Small Coconut Farmers Marketing Cooperative (CASCOFAMCO) at Ondoy, Ivisan; ESLA Packing House and Demo Farm, Kauswagan Development Corporation and Balay Kapisnon here.
The tour is in line with the OTOP Congress conducted last July 15 to provide venue for interactive sharing of good practices and critical issues among OTOP enterprises, implementers and advocates.
DTI Regional Director Dominic P. Abad graced the congress which also underscored the achievements of local government units (LGU) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) towards the advancement of their OTOPs,
OTOP is a priority program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs.
Through OTOP, local chief executives of each city and municipality take the lead in identifying, developing and promoting a specific product or service, which has a competitive advantage.
The program supports MSMEs to manufacture, offer and market distinctive products or services through the use of indigenous raw materials and local skills and talents.
It also offers a comprehensive assistance package through a convergence of services from LGUs, national government agencies (NGAs), and the private sector. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
