Parole and Probation marks 33rd year with sound mind, body
ROXAS CITY – The Parole and Probation Administration will mark 33 years of public service on July 24, 2009 to be highlighted by the observance of Parole and Probation Week starting July 18 on the theme of “Sound Mind in a Sound Body: The Key to Outstanding Public Service.”
This year’s celebration jives with the current campaign of the government among government officials and employees spearheaded by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to follow a healthy lifestyle.
Wilfredo Gallenero, Public Information Officer of the Roxas City Parole and Probation Administration here, said their office together with families of their clients and probation volunteers will have a family day and wellness activities on July 23 as one of the highlights of the event.
The local PPA office is headed by Wynona B. Dator.
The office, which is part of the Department of Justice, is implementing a program to rehabilitate probationers, parolees and pardonees and promote their development as integral persons by utilizing innovative interventions and techniques which respect the dignity of man and recognize his divine destiny.
It has also developed and organized Volunteer Probation Aides whose task is to directly help the PPA rehabilitate and reintegrate probationers, parolees and pardonees into the community.
Probation is a privilege granted to a person convicted of a criminal offense to serve punishment outside prison, subject to conditions imposed by the sentencing court and under the supervision of a Probation and Parole Officer.
On the other hand, parole refers to the conditional release of an offender from a correctional institution after serving the minimum period of prison sentence under the continued custody of the State and under conditions that permit reincarceration for violation of a condition for release. (PIA/PPA)
