Western Visayas is ready for a possible El-Niño
The Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Unit 6 (DA-RFU 6) is ready for the anticipated El Niño phenomenon, according to DA regional executive director Larry Nacionales.
In an interview, Nacionales said the region has its ready mitigating plan which includes the choice of commodity that thrives during the El Niño such as mangoes.
He said that if the phenomenon will hit sometime September, it will be better because it coincides with the rice harvest season.
The only fear, he said, is if the phenomenon will be longer.
He said that Secretary Arthur Yap will make the pronouncement about the integration of mitigating plans to DA programs.
He also said that the possibility of El Niño was already presented during their meetings.
“But we have mitigating plans in place which we will be implementing once the phenomenon occurs,” he stressed. (PNA)
