PRO6 holds 1st Journalism Summit for student editors, writers
Thirteen secondary schools participated Thursday in the first Journalism Summit for editors and writers at Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6).
The summit with a theme, “PNP: Facing the challenge of the Transformation”, was part of PRO6’s celebration of 14th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month.
The said theme was also the topic for the feature writing contest which highlighted the activity.
The participants also signed a covenant making themselves as advocates of peace and order not only in their respective schools but in the community as well.
The participating schools were: Sun Yat Sen High School, University of the Philippines, Jalandoni National High School, West Bridge, Lapaz National High School, Colegio de San Jose, Central Philippine University, University of San Agustin, Jaro National High School, Iloilo National High School, Mandurriao National High School, and Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus.
Miss Hazel P. Villa, Philippine Daily Inquirer correspondent in the Visayas and lecturer at the West Visayas State University Center for foreign languages, was the resource person for the summit.
The results of the feature writing contest were: Pauline Rose Geroche of Central Philippine University was adjudged as First Place winner; Oscar Jinon, Jr. of Colegio del Sagrado de Jesus for the Second Place and Jester Rose Rojas of Iloilo National High School landed as Third Placer.
The winners will receive their cash prizes and awards during the culminating activity of PCR Month celebration on July 27 at the Police Regional Office 6. (POI Jeramae C Rio)
