Bacolod offers mass for Cory at NGC
BACOLOD CITY – Bacolod City government will be sponsoring a holy mass today in honor of late Pres. Corazon Aquino.
The mass, to start 12:15 p.m., will be held at the lobby of the New Government Center (NGC).
As of yesterday, many flowers have been offered and many employees have signed and extended their short messages for the former President through a condolences book that is being passed from one office to the other.
The Philippine flag at the NGC fronting the Fountain Area is at half-mast starting Saturday.
Earlier, Leoanardia said the officials and the people of Bacolod sincerely condole with the Aquino family and the whole Filipino nation for the loss of democracy’s icon, former Pres. Aquino, who passed away early morning of August 1.
“Our prayers are with Pres. Cory’s immediate family and with every Filipino who mourns her untimely demise. Pres. Cory was a great loss for she was a living legend and a staunch believer that everything can be settled the democratic way. She restored our people’s faith in the democratic process–and with God’s help, we regained our status as the cradle of democracy in Asia through a bloodless revolution that drove the dictator away from Malacañang,” Leonardia said in his emailed statement.
“May the good examples of Pres. Cory give rise to more women like her who exhibit grace under pressure and quiet strength of faith in God’s justice. May she continue to inspire all people to treasure the gift that is democracy.”
“We pray that she is now happier in her reunion with her beloved Ninoy, in God’s kingdom. We pray that now she can look back at all her challenges and smile, and know that all were given in God’s glory.”
“Pres. Cory, we will always wear your yellow ribbon in our hearts–in memory of our modern day heroine–the icon of democracy for the whole world,” Leonardia added.
Meanwhile, the Archdiocese of Bacolod through Bishop Vicente Navarra offered also a mass for the late president “Cory” yesterday afternoon at around 5:30.
It was attended by all priests, church leaders, officials and even ordinary people who remembered and sympathized with the Cojuanco and Aquino families.
Yellow ribbons are tied on all posts and gates of the cathedral which symbolizes the sadness of Bacoleños and Negrenses to the death of the democratic icon.
