PGMA to distribute cash grants to Aklan’s indigents
No less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is expected to grace the second round of releasing of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Libacao, Aklan on August 7, 2009.
During the activity, a total of 1,796 beneficiaries from the 12 barangays of Libacao will receive the cash grants amounting to P2,645,900.
If distributed, Barangay Alfonso XII has 140 beneficiaries with a cash grant of P207,500; Dalagsaan, 291 beneficiaries with P417,300; Guadalupe, 117 beneficiaries with P171,300; Luctoga, 157 beneficiaries with P225,100; Magugba, 67 beneficiaries with P98,500; Manika, 321 beneficiaries with P466,800; Ortega 157 beneficiaries with 237,100; Oyang, 129 beneficiaries with P193,200; Pampango, 161 beneficiaries with P248,300; Rivera, 59 beneficiaries with P86,900; Rosal, 135 beneficiaries with P206,100; and Sibalew, 62 beneficiaries with P87,800.
“We are calling on the beneficiaries to comply with the program’s conditions. This would not just secure that they will not be disqualified from the program but will also mean investing for their children’s future,” said Director Teresita S. Rosales of DSWD Field Office VI.
The beneficiaries for the activity were not included in the earlier releasing of grants (July 22, 2009) since the 4Ps Project Management Office decided to divide the distribution in two schedules because of the large number of beneficiaries. That day, a total of 806 beneficiaries received grants amounting to P1,195,100.
The program is a poverty reduction strategy that provides grants to extremely poor households to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly of children aged 0-14.
To avail of cash grants, beneficiaries should comply with the following conditions: pregnant women must get pre and post-natal care, and be attended during childbirth by a skilled/trained health professional; parents or guardians must attend responsible parenthood sessions, mother’s classes, and parent effectiveness seminars; and children must attend classes from schools at least 85 percent of the time and must receive regular preventive health check-ups and vaccines.
