DPWH hopes to concrete all Aklan roads before PGMA term ends in 2010
KALIBO, Aklan — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) hoped that all the national roads in the province will be concreted before President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ends her term in 2010.
DPWH-Aklan District Engineer Roberto Cabigas said that currently the province has 166 kilometers concrete/macadamized highway. Only remote areas of Buruanga, Aklan to Libertad, Antique road are not paved including the Altavas, Aklan-Jamindan, Capiz road.
“In the old days, the Buruanga-Libertad route was considered as a highway of folks to Boracay Island. We wanted to restore the path and we are currently doing our best to concretize the said highway,” said Cabigas.
The Buruanga-Libertad highway stretch to around 10 kilometers long and the DPWH-Aklan is coordinating with Aklan Congressman Florencio Miraflores to help them look for funding to concretize the highway.
The Buruanga town, known for its mysterious caves and pristine beaches, is also being considered by the Aklan provincial government as an alternative tourism destination from Boracay Island.
Aside from the concreting of highway, the DPWH-Kalibo is also working for one way traffic for Boracay Island.
“We are confident that all of the projects will be completed before Mrs. Arroyo would end her term,” Cabigas said. (PNA)
