Aklan Police Office leads search for best barangay tanods
KALIBO, Aklan -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has welcomed the move of the Aklan Provincial Police Office (APPO) to launch a search for best barangay tanods (village security men) in the province.
According to DILG Provincial Director Jenny Destua, barangay tanods serve their villages on a purely voluntary basis, risking their lives and limbs to preserve peace and order in their locality for minimal or negligible financial remunerations.
"Their spirits of unwavering concern and volunteerism deserve recognition and honor through the conduct of the 2009 Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanods," Destua said.
The search is also being supported by the Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, National Police Commission, PPSC and local goverment units
The search has four categories, namely: Best Performing Barangay Tanod as individual, group, posthumous/exemplary performer, and heroism.
The search aims to recognize the best performing barangay tanods not only in the provincial level but the whole Western Visayas in the pursuit of the implementation and management of Peace and Order Council (POC) programs, projects through the initiative of the coordinative agencies.
The APPO said it will strengthen the volunteer system and auxiliary network between and among public and private responders. (PNA)
