Ilonggo-Bisaya heritage seminar today
Cultural workers in Iloilo and Guimaras sit down for a two-day seminar on Ilonggo-Bisaya Heritage at the GCEB Audio-Visual Room of UP Visayas campus here August 19-20.
The City Government, through the representation of Iloilo City Cultural Heritage Conservation Council (ICCHCC) chair Dr. Kristin Louise Treñas, extended financial support to this activity made possible in partnership with the Center for West Visayan Studies led by its director Henry Funtecha.
The seminar is offered free to selected cultural workers noted for their interest and commitment to cultural preservation and promotion to help them become more knowledgeable and responsive in their respective advocacy.
The discussion is envisioned to help participants learn more and appreciate their historico-cultural heritage.
Among the areas of concern that will be presented are basic knowledge of Iloilo history, Ilonggo ethnic and cultural identity, Ilonggo folklore and literature, Iloilo’s traditional arts and crafts, Ilonggo komposo and zarzuela, Iloilo’s heritage structures and landmarks, Ilonggo women in history, and the use of Information Technology in preserving and promoting local culture.
Aside from patience and dedication, every cultural worker doing advocacy as an individual or in a group needs sufficient knowledge of the locality’s culture and history to effectively pursue their tasks. (PIO)
