RES GESTAE
Towards a great nation
Atty. Alexander Lacson is right in saying that this country – Philippines – can be a great nation. However, this is possible only if each of us does our share as citizen, as Filipino in making this country to be so.
Of course, we need not to run for public office to make an impact… to achieve the goal. And, this premise is not hard to understand. Many people sought election to public office and bestowed with the privilege to serve our country. But, not so many of them made a positive impact to the nation. Instead, a great many of them failed us in our expectations… as much as they failed to do their solemn duty by virtue of their positions.
Nevertheless, instead of going to the streets and shouting out loud our grievances to the people in government, Lacson simply suggests us to do at least 12 little things to help our country – from following traffic rules to adopting a scholar. (You may avail of his book, “12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country”, and read the details. It is sold [however, still not available few days ago] in the National Book Store.)
Moved by the same passion – to make this country a great nation–my friend, Mark, and I thought of a way to do our share in that endeavor. While convinced of the fact that first thing we can do is to live by the 12 little things, we also wished to go extra mile. This, we agree to campaign, share on our youth the mission.
We want to make ‘leaders’ out of our youth – in each of them.
Last month, opportunity knocked on our door to take the first step in our campaign. Mark got an invitation to provide leadership seminar-workshop with the youth in the Iloilo Third District. To date, we are slated this Saturday (August 22) to do our fourth seminar-workshop.
Regardless the motives of people who tapped our services, Mark and I are just enjoying every moment we have an encounter with the youth. In every town… in every group of youth, we can see hope… we can affirm that this country will surely soon rise from the rubbles of corruption, enmity, and passivity. So long there is a youth, there is hope. Thus, in every place we hold the seminar-workshop, we never forget to always leave the youth one challenge – to lift a finger… to do their share… to make a sacrifice in making this country a great nation.
While we are yet starting, we admit that maybe our passion is only fleeting. But, we know the rule:–if you want to reach your goal, never quit. “Tomorrow is only for those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”.
This country can be a great nation. Let us do our share. Let us believe in our youth.
