City intensifies implementation of anti-littering ordinance
The kick off activity of the citywide implementation of the much-awaited Regulation Ordinance 2004-149, otherwise known as the Environment Code of Iloilo City, just recently netted 34 violators.
Armando Dayrit of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), also a member of the enforcement team, said the violators were issued sanitation citation tickets for their failure to maintain the cleanliness of their surrounding, littering and urinating in public places.
Also five barangay captains were issued similar tickets after the enforcement team discovered uncollected garbage that were dumped in their respective areas of jurisdictions.
The enforcement team headed by Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) deputy chief, Supt. Eugenio Espejo, is now strict in its monitoring of government offices, hotels and restaurants and other business establishments for possible violation of the ordinance, according to Dayrit.
The team also tapped the Association of Barangay Captains under ex-officio member Irene Ong to ensure that the ordinance is properly implemented at the barangay level.
The ordinance prohibits littering on streets, sidewalks, parks, playgrounds and other public places; urinating, defecating or spitting in public places; painting inscribing or posting of graffiti on public buildings, walls, fences and similar places; vandalism of public or private property; failure to maintain the cleanliness of comfort rooms in public establishments and failure to maintain the cleanliness of premises surrounding public or private buildings or vacant lots.
Those who will be caught violating the provisions will be fined, face court charges in court or suffer both. (PNA)
