The Ilaya-Ivisan Barangay Tanod will also be the official entry of the province of Capiz to the Western Visayas Regional Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanod this year, which is being chaired by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
According to DILG Provincial Operation Services head Llanie Destacamento, the search is an annual activity which is being conducted by the Provincial Search Committee composed of different national and local government agencies as well as non-government organizations.
She said that for this year, the Provincial Search Committee is composed of DILG Provincial Director Helen Mestidio as chairperson, Police Provincial Director Josephus Angan, Atty. Wilfredo Serilo of the National Police Commission, Carlito Barrera of the Bureau of jail Management and Penology, Rowel Limjuco of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Esperidion Pelaez from the Governor’s Office and Leonardo Eusalan from REACT.
Destacamento revealed that while Ilaya-Ivisan ranked first this year with an overall assessment rating of 93.42, the Barangay Tanods of Manibad, Mambusao town and Loctugan, Roxas City also won as second and third placers, respectively.
Included in the criteria for said Search are the legal basis for the organization of the barangay tanod, organization and functional structure, logistical and financial support, trainings, support facilities and equipment as well as accomplishments.
Barangay tanods are civilian volunteer organizations that are being tapped in promoting peace and order in the communities.
Meanwhile, Mestidio said that barangay tanods deserve proper recognition for their voluntary services that would benefit the public, especially in the barangays.
Mestidio added that community support is also needed to ensure a peaceful and orderly community. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
