WVSU-CMC to co-sponsor national media confab
West Visayas State University-College of Mass Communications, together with the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (Iloilo City) will sponsor the Asian Congress for Media and Communication (ACMC) National Conference on August 27-29, 2009. With the theme, “Media, Education and Government: Cultivating Social Change of Youth”, the conference will be held at Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center.
The conference will commence with a Special Campus Journalism Lecture for students by Prof. Rachel Khan, an award winning journalist and former Chair of the Journalism Department University of the Philippines Diliman-College of Mass Communication, to be organized by Forum-Dimensions, the official student publication of WVSU and The Mediator, the official student publication of the WVSU-CMC . It will be followed by the opening ceremonies and socials in the afternoon of the 27th with Alexandra Prieto-Romualdez, President of Philippine Daily Inquirer, as the keynote speaker.
Plenary sessions and simultaneous paper presentations will be held on the second and third days of the conference. Speakers at the Plenary will include: Elena Pernia, Ph.D., former Dean of the UP-CMC (ICT Literacy and Life Long Learning); Patricia Evangelista (Competitive World and the Borderless World); Bae Rohganiza M. Sumndad, Asia-America Initiative Country Director (The Role of the Youth in Peace Building); Sonyn Miguel Tan, friendster.com Philippines Director for Interactive Media and Digital Activation (The Internet as Social Networking); CheChe Lazaro, founder, Kabataan News Network/Probe Foundation (Broadcast Media in Shaping National Consciousness), and; Aileen Araneta, past Vice President for Brand Development of Unilever Southeast Asia (Understanding Values and Advertising).
The 2009 ACMC Philippine conference supports the 10th year of International Youth Day (IYD) and aims to bring together groups and individuals interested in issues of cultural changes and challenges confronting the youth in an endangered demographic. Also, this conference will lay the groundwork for the organization’s 2nd International Conference in 2010 to be held at Universiti Penang Malaysia.
