Mondejar hits plight of prov’l roads, lack of Capitol budget
Second District Board Member June Mondejar led yesterday’s call for Capitol action and resolution on the worsening road conditions under the Iloilo Provincial Government’s jurisdiction.
Subject of his latest privilege speech, Mondejar decried what he said were provincial roads long wanting of maintenance. Worse, he pointed out, the situation is seemingly the same all throughout Iloilo reason why rallied colleagues to immediately act on the matter.
“Can we afford to continue to be indifferent or apathetic on the complaints of our affected constituents? Can we afford to prolong their inconveniences, their sufferings due to the negative effects of the unmaintained provincial roads? Are we not going to lift our fingers nevertheless we are in the position to do so?,” came the questions of Mondejar while stressing that maintenance of the provincial roads “is the responsibility of the Provincial Government.”
Mondejar said that he spoke with Provincial Engineer Gracianito Lucero on the matter.
“He replied to me that he is well aware of the worst condition of the provincial roads. Unfortunately, the provincial engineer’s office, which he heads, has no more budget left for the maintenance of the provincial road. He recommended and in fact, he was emphatic on his recommendation that we need a supplemental budget for the maintenance of provincial roads,” Board Member Mondejar continued.
As such, he urged provincial board to sponsor a Resolution urging Governor Niel Tupas to allocate supplemental budget for the provincial roads’ maintenance.
As per report of Board Member Mondejar, Iloilo has a total of 671.83 kilometers in provincial roads, the most at 33.47% within the Fourth District. Some 70.68 kilometers are concrete, 8.23 kilometers are asphalt and 592.92 kilometers are gravel.
