Province, DENR join hands in coastal resource mgt
ROXAS CITY – The provincial government of Capiz and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are joining hands in formulating an integrated plan for coastal management that takes into account the challenge of climate change.
DENR said their agency through its Coastal and Marine Management Division (CMMD) will conduct together with the provincial government an orientation-workshop on the development of the Capiz Provincial Integrated Coastal Management Framework Plan, August 20-21, to draw up the plan.
The plan will include comprehensive and integrated programs anchored on sustainable development principles as a mechanism for disaster preparedness and adaptation to the impact of climate change.
The activity will be held at the Pag-ulikid Training Center of the provincial government at ESLA, Barangay Lanot, Roxas City.
The provincial government said the activity is important considering that the provincial capital of Roxas City and 5 towns of the province, namely Sapian, Ivisan, Panay, Pontevedra, Pres. Roxas and Pilar are coastal communities and make major contributions to the socio-economic development of Capiz.
Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr. welcomed the activity and the support of DENR in making it possible.
Top local officials led by Gov. Tanco will grace the orientation-workshop. Officials of DENR from its Central and regional offices including Carlo Custodio, Executive Director of Coastal and Marine Management Office and Regional Executive Director Benjamin Tumaliuan are coming to lead the orientation-workshop with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office headed by Dionisio Molina, Jr. (PIA)
