Police are eyeing a business-related angle in the shooting of a couple in Brgy. Sambag, Jaro district early morning yesterday.
SPO2 Rey Delos Santos of Jaro Police Station said couple George and Ronelyn Gulanes are engaged in a lending business which could be the closest possible angle for the motive of the crime.
The couple, together with their 14-year old daughter, were ambushed by two motorcycle-riding gunmen around 7 a.m. yesterday as they were about to go out of San Paolo subdivision in Brgy. Sambag, Jaro on board their pick-up vehicle.
George died because of fatal gunshot wounds on the different parts of his body while his wife Ronelyn, who suffered minor gunshot wounds on her head, is still recuperating at a hospital. Fortunately, their daughter were spared by the suspects and was able to run away to a nearby store and seek cover.
Residents in the area said they heard four to five gunfires after which they saw George lying on a pool of blood a few meters away from his vehicle.
Witnesses said the vehicle bumped unto a taxi cab after the driver tried to escape the gunmen.
According to the taxi driver who saw the incident, George came out of the pick-up to run away but he was chased by the gunmen then finished him to the last bullet.
The gunmen then immediately left on board their motorcycle towards an unknown direction.
Police investigators recovered from the crime scene several empty shells of .45 caliber pistol.
They are still conducting follow up investigation to establish the identities of the suspects who are believed to be hired killers.
Delos Santos said somebody who owes the couple a big amount of money and could no longer afford to pay might have resorted to having them killed.
Police is hoping for Ronelyn’s speedy recovery as she could share vital information about the incident.
