Ilonggo teacher cited as one of the country’s 10 outstanding teachers
An Ilonggo teacher along with nine others were conferred honors by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for this year’s Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers.
The Malacañang press report disclosed that the ten awardees were cited by the Metrobank Foundation which established the annual program in partnership with the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education
It rewards the teachers for raising the quality of education through their use of innovative and creative techniques in the classrooms.
The awardees are:1) Lourdes L. Matan, Mag-Ubay Elem.School, Calbayog City; 2). Gemma G. Cortez, Dasmarinas Elem School, Dasmarinas, Cavite; 3) Benjamin M. Martinez, San Sebastian Elem. School, San Sebastian, Tarlac City; 4) Eva B. Imingan, Nellie E. Brown Elem. School, West Bajac, Olongapo City; 5) Shiela Faith M. Ganela, Phil. Science High School, Southern Mindanao Campus, Davao City; 6) Rochelle D. Papasin, Phil. Science High School, Southern Mindanao Campus, Davao City; 7) Ma. Petra A. Romualdo, Minapan High School, Minapan, Tulunan, North Cotabato; 8) Zoilo J. Pinagcos, Jr., Leganes National High School, Guinobatan, Leganes, Iloilo;9). Dina Joana S. Ocampo, University of the Philippines, Diliman, QC; 10). Dr. Ramon del Fierro, University of San Carlos, Cebu City.
During the awarding ceremony, President Arroyo was assisted by Geroge SK Ty, chairman of Metrobank Group, and Education Secretary Jesli Lapus. The ceremony was held at the Rizal Hall in Malacañang.
Each awardee gets P300,000 in cash, a plaque of recognition, a medal, and a trophy. The school of the awardee-teacher also gets a plaque of recognition, the Malacañang press report disclosed. (PIA6/T.Villavert)
