Training for police auxiliaries begin
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the training for the qualified applicants for the police auxiliary started Monday. The applicants who are currently undergoing training at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) have passed the interview and written examination.
The 30-day training would include self-defense and arnis training, among others. The police auxiliary would not be armed like the policemen. No police auxiliary would be allowed to carry guns but only arnis and tear gas.
As soon as they have finished their physical training course, the police auxiliaries would be immediately fielded in the city’s different streets. The ratio of the deployment is 1:3 or one police with three police auxiliaries.
Most those who are admitted were graduates of Criminology Courses and four-year courses. The plan in hiring police auxiliaries was conceptualized by Iloilo City Police Office chief Senior Supt. Melvin Mongcal after he assumed as the city police director. The hiring of police auxiliaries as multiplier force is patterned from Manila.
The police auxiliary will receive salary with benefits from GSIS and PhilHealth. They would be hired on a contractual basis. The salaries of the police auxiliaries would be taken from the P5 million allotted by the city government.
The renewal of their contract depends on police auxiliary performance. The city will also provide the police auxiliaries with their uniforms. The hiring of police auxiliaries will serve as training ground for the future hiring in the police service. It will be an opportunity for them to practice what they have learned in the university.
