Rotary’s boy and girl officials ‘invade’ City Hall
Forty-nine high school students from public and private institutions here have taken the tasks of public officials of the City Government in line with the Boys and Girls Week Celebration of Rotary Club of Iloilo City September 21-27.
This initiative aims to introduce ongoing activities of City Government to the youth as future leaders of the country.
The young leaders took their oath of office before Mayor Jerry Treñas during a program at Robinsons Place food court September 22.
Treñas said the initiative gives the boy and girl officials a glimpse of local governance and training ground on how to address issues and problems despite the limited resources.
“You will rise to challenge of public service and serve Iloilo City. You have to sacrifice more to prepare yourself not only for ordinary life but for the demand of leadership in our country. Be of service to the city and the country,” the mayor told boy and girl officials.
Rotary Club of Iloilo City President Markus Duenneisen commended the boy and girl officials on taking the job of a stressful week but full of new learning and opportunities.
He also thanked Treñas and the City Government for full support to the noble endeavor.
Boy Mayor 2009 Tyrone Anthony Bretaña of Ateneo de Iloilo-SMCS shares his vision of a good leadership saying “success does not come to us, we go for it – it’s a journey, not a destination – so aim high because nothing is impossible if we work together.” (PIO)
