Charmy Joy Ga: The ‘Recycle Runway’ Princess
In line with the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology’s 104 Foundation Day celebration, the students of the Fashion and Apparel Technology held a fashion show-cum-contest entitled “Recycle Runway” recently.
The competition’s purpose was to provide more awareness on the importance of practicing recycling as a lifestyle, even in fashion.
The wining designer was sophomore student Charmy Joy Ga. Her entry was a cocktail dress made of candy wrappers for the girl’s top, garbage bag for the boy’s pants and girl’s belt and plastic bag for the girl’s skirt and cap. The entry won her P500 cash, a trophy and a certificate.
Last year, Charmy joined a somewhat similar tilt called “Bag-ong Dagway” where she designed and modeled her own apparel.
Born creative, Charmy designs some of the clothes of her family and friends for special occasions. By the time she finishes her four-year course in Fashion and Apparel Technology, she’ll be an expert in accessories, mask and headdress making as well.
Charmy is the daughter of Marilyn and Wilfredo Ga and a native of Buenavista, Guimaras.
