Gov. Perez lauds 1st Regional OTOP Congress
SAN JOSE, Antique – Antique Governor and Regional Development Council Chairperson Salvacion Z. Perez expressed her pride in the strides which her province and the whole region have taken in the OTOP Program.
One Town One Product (OTOP) is a priority program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs. It encourages the country’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to produce and market distinct products or services using indigenous raw materials and manpower.
Perez divulged Antique’s progress in the program which create OTOP committees to supervise the implementation of the program, with the goal of overseeing the progress and providing the structure for its (OTOP) implementation in the province and the individual municipalities,” in her speech. “One of our most recent contributions is the construction of a Provincial OTOP Showcase Center dubbed as ‘Bahay Lokal’ where the best products of every town are available to the public,” she added proudly.
The 1st Regional One Town One Product Congress and Awarding Ceremony was held recently at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City. On attendance were the different Provincial Governors in Region 6, as well as the awardees in the different categories of the OTOP Awards.
Governor Perez also extended her congratulations to all the winners in the Awards. She is also particularly proud of Anini-y, a finalist for the Most Supportive LGU Award, the Bagtasun Loom Weavers in Bugasong, and the municipality of Laua-an, all of them OTOP awardees. (pio_antique/PIA)
