Bacolod’s airport manager relieved from post
BACOLOD CITY — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a memorandum order relieving Bacolod-Silay Airport Manager Antonio Alfonso from his post effective yesterday, October 1, pending the investigation on the missing terminal fee collections of P240,000.
The memorandum signed by Director General Ruben Esperon also designates Felizardo Turalba as the officer-in-charge of Bacolod-Silay airport. Turalba is the airport manager of Zamboanga City.
The new assignment of Alfonso is not yet revealed.
Recently, the National Bureau of Investigation Bacolod through Mamerto Cortez, conducted a polygraph or lie detection tests on eight persons believed to be involved in the loss of P240,000 collections in terminal fees.
The help of NBI was sought personally by the former manager of Bacolod Silay Airport Manager Antonio Alfonso.
At about 5 a.m. last September 14, an incoming terminal fee inspector at the airport discovered that the cash was missing from their steel cabinet located at the second floor.
The inspector immediately informed the management of his discovery.
NBI’s polygraph to the eight names presented earlier seemed to be negative reason why the agency is asking another list from the new manager.
Turalba promised to submit another list the soonest time possible.
Investigation of Silay City police chief lead Supt. Jerry Bartolome, revealed that three was an “inside job” since there were no visible signs of force used in getting the money.
The Philippine National Police has already submitted their investigation report to NBI, making the agency as the lead investigator of the case.
Cortez clarified that although polygraph or popularly known as lie detector test is inadmissible as evidence in any criminal proceedings but it can be a basis of administrative remedies.
