Bacolod gears for 71st Charter Day
BACOLOD CITY — Preparations are now underway for the celebration of Bacolod City’s 71st Charter Day on October 19, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.
The celebration of the city’s charter day caps the 19-day celebration of the world renowned MassKara Festival.
Leonardia, who chairs the 71st Charter Day Committee, said that this year’s theme “Bacolod…Moving Beyond Expectations” best described the city’s resiliency in the midst of global crisis where new and old businesses continue to flourish despite the economic downtrend that hit various countries worldwide.
The New Government Center also stood as statement to the unwavering spirit of the Bacoleños and as monument that will remind people that Bacolod will always brave and conquer the storms of change and uncertainty, the mayor added.
This year’s celebration will be highlighted by the giving of the Banwahanon Awards to outstanding Bacoleños in the morning and the parade of floats in the afternoon. Awarding ceremonies will be held at the New Government Center.
The grand parade is participated by the cities and municipalities in the province of Negros Occidental as well as various commercial establishments, schools, non-governmental organizations, government offices, employees and even beauty queens.
The Charter Day celebration will be covered live by the local radio stations and will be seen via Sky Cable.
