Treñas seeks approval of P2M aid to QC, Marikina
The Iloilo City Council is expected to approve during Wednesday’s regular session the release of P2 million cash assistance to be given to flood-stricken cities of Quezon and Marikina in Metro Manila.
“I request all of you to consider the sad fate of these cities and we should show our full support by giving them financial aid of P1 million each from the city’s calamity fund. They too showed their admirable support when Iloilo City was ravaged by typhoon Frank last year,” Mayor Jerry Treñas wrote members of the City Council.
Quezon and Marikina are sister cities of Iloilo.
The mayor also enjoined all Ilonggos to support relief efforts for the flood victims.
“I appeal to all the Ilonggos to extend help to various fund and relief drives. This is an opportunity for us to give back and show our gratitude to those who have helped us during typhoon Frank,” said Treñas.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) declared a state of national calamity in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces in the aftermath of Typhoon Ondoy.
“All departments and other government agencies concerned are hereby directed to implement and execute medical assistance, relief and rehabilitation work in accordance with the existing operational plans, directives and orders issued in connection with the occurrence of calamities,” said NDCC chair Gilbert Teodoro.
