Atty. Rene Villa’s media blitz
Atty. Rene Villa is so aggressive in his media blitz nowadays even if the 2010 elections is still so far away. His voice is heard over the radio morning, noon and nighttime while his face is also seen on television through spot commercials inserted on local and primetime programs on the two big networks. Indeed, it’s true that Atty. Villa has prepared a monolithic campaign warchest for his bid to become the next congressman of the Third District. Mga P200 million kuno ang preparasyon ni Atty. Villa. What is ironic, however, is that Atty. Villa in his media blitz talks about the multifarious social problems like poverty, joblessness, illiteracy, etc. things which he could have addressed when he was still part of the cabinet of former Pres. Joseph Estrada. Te, wala man! Sa imo bi Kamlon?
Spare the sari-sari stores
There is a move from the City Treasurer’s Office at present to require small sari-sari stores and carinderia here in Iloilo City to secure a business permit. Bull’s Eye believes that this move is so oppressive. If the purpose of the city government is to have a database of all the small sari-sari stores and carinderia operating in the city they could have devised a scheme wherein such establishments could be registered at a reasonable cost on the part of the owner. Small sari-sari stores and carinderia should not be likened to big commercial establishments as these are usually operating under a very small capital. Most small sari-sari stores and carinderia are located on the owner’s house and merely cater to their neighbors or people within the area. There is no need to impose on them the business permit similar to what is being required among commercial establishments. Otherwise these small sari-sari stores or carinderia, which usually serve as source of daily income of owners, will die a natural death. For sure, if that happens, the city government could not provide the owners with alternative livelihood so that they could send their children to school and feed their family.
Caught red handed
No amount of denial can save Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. from the controversy involving the use of provincial government’s heavy equipment in the construction of his house in Brgy. Juanico, Banate, Iloilo. There are pictures and videos showing proof that indeed dumptrucks and payloaders of the province were used in clearing the area where the governor’s multi-million house is constructed. These pictures and videos can be seen on the net through: http://krusadakontrakurakot.wordpress.com and http://kontramakawat.blogspot.com.
