Treñas: Iloilo City ready for more investments
More investors are expected to set their eyes on Iloilo City as the next investment destination following the metropolis’ citation as Asia-Pacific’s leader of business excellence.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is positive that additional investors will enter the city after being recognized as one of the four leaders of business excellence during the 2009 Palladium Balanced Scorecard (BSC) Hall of Fame awarding in Jakarta, Indonesia October 5.
“This is proof that Iloilo City is ready to accommodate the entry of more investments,” Treñas said, referring to the Palladium Hall of Fame award.
“The city has proven that beyond the regular requirements of being a potential investment hub with the presence of qualified manpower and continued infrastructure development, an active public-private partnership among the stakeholders utilizing the BSC, becomes a competitive tool that contributes to the rapid economic growth,” the mayor stressed.
Treñas received the city’s global recognition in honor for the metropolis’s breakthrough business performance results.
The City Government’s induction to the 2009 Palladium BSC Hall of Fame is the first and so far the only award attained by a public or private organization from the Philippines.
Iloilo City is a major center of arts, culture, and sports making it one of the “Best Place to Live in the Philippines” as identified in a survey by MoneySense Magazine.
Using the BSC to help improve public accountability and promote responsible citizenship and economic and social development, the city partnered since 2005 with the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), an organization that advocates good governance.
“Since its adoption, citizen satisfaction has risen 15 percent, manufacturing capitalization has expanded fourfold, and National Achievement Test results in the city’s public schools are up percent 20 percent,” the Palladium Group said in a statement.
“The BSC has enabled us to clearly communicate strategy and align our workforce through a common language and shared objectives, measures, targets, and initiatives,” Treñas said.
“The process has helped make our city vibrant, well-governed, and prosperous, establishing a roadmap for Iloilo to achieve even more as a Premier City by 2015,” he added. (PIO)
