Bacolod artist designs NPC stalwarts trophies
The trophies will be given during the first NPC Awards night on Oct. 10, 2009 at L’Fisher Hotel
The custom-designed trophies that will be given to the stalwarts of the Negros Press Club will feature a quill, the universal symbol of journalism, and ‘paper’ – two of the basic weapons of journalists, says Bacolod artist Manny Montelibano who designed them .
To be rendered in stainless steel, the quill and paper will be set in hardwood and will measure about two feet, the artist added.
The trophies will be given during the first NPC Awards night on Oct. 10, 2009 at L’Fisher Hotel which will honor Ninfa Leonardia, Primo Esleyer, Rollie Espina, Modesto Sa-onoy, Ely de los Santos and Ruperto Toga for their contributions to the development of the press and of the club. Two special awards will be given to Edgar Cadagat for his work on the promotion of press freedom and Allen del Carmen for journalism education.
“It is my honor to design the trophies to be given to people who have made great contributions to our society,” Montelibano added.
He said he worked on the trophies for eight working days with his brother Jun-jun, also an up and coming visual artist, and craftsman Wilson Ledesma. He said it is his first time to design trophies, although he has been into designing stages for plays and art installations.
Aside from designing the trophies, Montelibano will also direct Salute to the Stalwarts: The Negros Press Club Awards Night.
The representative of Western Visayas in the Committee on Visual Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Montelibano has also been directing and producing plays, indie films and documentaries here and across the country.
He is one of the participating artists in Sungduan, the national exhibition that recently opened in the national museum.
The NPC Awards Night will be produced by the Silver MassKara Festival Organization, Inc., organizers of MassKara 2009.
