ICPO chief orders: Bring back La Paz PNP escapees
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) chief Senior Superintendent Melvin Mongcal has ordered the immediate arrest of the two prisoners who bolted out of the La Paz police station lock up cell recently.
He also relieved SPO2 Nelson Alitao, the policeman on duty during the jailbreak, from the La Paz police station while an administrative case is being readied against him.
Mongcal directed the ICPO Intelligence Unit and the Iloilo City Mobile Group to augment La Paz police personnel in looking for the whereabouts of the two escaped prisoners.
The two prisoners who were able to escape were identified as Mark Anthony Cajandig y Rufo and Alberto Doronila y Patpat. Cajandig was put to jail due to violation of R.A. 9165 while Doronila for the case of robbery.
They were able to escape from the lock-up cell of the La Paz PNP Wednesday (October 7) early morning, around 3a.m. to 5a.m., allegedly by cutting the steel bars with the use of guitar cord.
Meanwhile, lawyer Joshua Alim warned that he will file criminal and administrative charges against the men of the La Paz police station if they fail to arrest the two escapees in 72 hours.
Alim, who is the legal counsel of the owners of a store ransacked by Doronila, said the La Paz is liable for negligence for their failure to secure their prisoners.
He said such failure is highly unacceptable as it would result in loss of trust and confidence by businessmen or any other ordinary individual in the capability of the police to ensure that the prisoners could not escape from their watch.
Mongcal, it was learned, has directed Senior Inspector Alexander Rosales, chief of La Paz PNP, to reinforce the steel bars of their lock-up cell.
