Roxas’s trusted man eyed to oppose Bermejo in mayoral race
ROXAS CITY – 1St District Cong. Antonio Del Rosario said that Emmanuel “Tawi” Billones, Sen. Mar Roxas’s trusted man, is being eyed by the Liberal Party (LP) to oppose City Mayor Vicente Bermejo in the mayoralty race comes 2010 election.
This was revealed by Del Rosario during a press conference held at his office last Friday amidst the postponement of sorties of presidential aspirant Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and vice presidential aspirant Sen. Mar Roxas II in Roxas City and Capiz last week due to flooding in Luzon.
Del Rosario, who is a political foe of Bermejo, said that Billones will be supported by majority of Barangay Captains in Roxas City once the latter (Billones) will run against Bermejo in the next election.
“Whoever will be Bermejo’s opponent will win,” Del Rosario said adding that the he will no longer be an ally of the city mayor.
Bermejo, who is supported by majority of barangay captains, said earlier that he is ready if the LP will kick him out saying that he will still be running and only the people in Roxas City could unseat him as mayor.
Bermejo, Vice Gov. Felipe Barredo, Panay Mayor Dante Bermejo, Pres. Roxas mayor Rosauro Buenafe, 2nd District Cong. Fredenil Castro and nine mayors in the 2nd District were not around during the dinner meeting of Sen. Mar Roxas with his political allies.
Roxas lambasted allies who have joined former Department of Agriculture (DA) Usec. Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante’s Ugyon Kita Capiz Party calling them traitors.
Sen. Roxas also said that he will not select candidates who are thieves, apparently referring to Bolante and allies.
The senator also said that he will announce his political allies after his wedding with Korina Sanchez on the first week of November.
Meanwhile, a mayor of the second district who spoke on condition of anonymity told The News Today (TNT) that they did not attend the dinner meeting of the senator because they were not invited.
