Capiz pushes environmental efforts to mitigate climate change effects
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Governor Victor Tanco remains firm in his commitment against large scale mining in the province.
According to Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera, Capiz is still against all forms of large scale mining because of the many environmental and human catastrophes.
Herrera said that with the present problem on climate change, Gov. Tanco pushes for more environmental efforts, particularly on intensified tree planting activities, coastal management and mangrove reforestation.
In fact, he said, the provincial government here continues to set aside an annual appropriation for sustaining the cleaning, greening and sanitation program, particularly the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) program.
Herrera disclosed that Capiz is the only province in Region VI that continues its annual search for the cleanest and greenest town here as part of the campaign to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change.
He said that sustained environmental protection plus the support from all sectors are still the best weapon against climate change.
He added that with the intensified advocacy on issues affecting the public, especially on natural and man-made calamities, both the government and the people would be able to take immediate preparedness and response measures. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
