Human rights violations in RP very serious, says UN official
Church and country leaders gathered at Bethel Temple Assemblies of God Church at Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City last week to discuss environmental changes and human rights violations. Rev. Lee McKenna duCharme, Program Director of World Peace Networks was the guest speaker.
The beauteous Canadian lady spoke on the conduct of training for Filipinos on the protection of mother nature, love our environment in order not to inherit our generation which is full of holes. She also spoke on human rights violations not only in the Philippines but also in other parts of the world.
Asked what her organization has been doing towards violation of human rights particularly in the Philippines, McKenna cited the Philippines as very, very serious violator of human rights especially those who oppose the administration policy abuses on mass media killings. She alleged that GMA had tolerated the abuses of the military on the reported disappearance of activists and fearless media practitioners who oppose her administration.
The UN leader advocate of peace cited the US as the No. 1 violator of human rights and her organization is supporting the advocacy against the creation of mercenaries against American activists in the fight against human violations. She also supported human rights abuses in her country Canada. McKenna attributed environmental change to climate pollution, mining exploration, cutting of trees, emission of black smoke in big factories around the world, etc.
At the start of the conference, there were testimonies of human rights violation coming from victims of this painful atrocities. Survivor Jose Ely Garachico related how he suffered miserably from the hands of his merciless abductors, the disappearance of human rights activists like Ma. Luisa Dominado, and several other human rights advocates in Panay. It was reported that only last week of August Luisa Capadocio who took shelter in a city PNP station was reportedly missing.
Charito Castillo also made her testimony and her harrowing experiences in the hands of her abductors was beyond comprehension. Fr. Andy Loma, an Aglipayan priest, made known his testimony and Edgar Pelayo related his sad ordeal in the hands of the GMA exterminators.
Rev. McKenna was invited to Iloilo City by the Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches (CPBC) and she will make her honest to goodness report on human rights violation in the countries she visited lately to the United Nations Human Rights Commission. McKenna was accompanied in her visit to different organizations and churches in Iloilo by Zarraga Kagawad May Grace Lubaton who acted as moderator, Feraz Legita, director of CPBC, Hope Hervilla of Bayan Panay and several other retired high ranking military officials and dignified activists personalities in Panay.
