Voice for Peace
An impromptu speech competition “VOICE FOR PEACE” was conducted by the Rotary Club of Metro Roxas-Central at the MVW Restaurant in Roxas City. The contest was participated by public and private high school students, ages 14-18 years old, showcasing their talents in impromptu speech.
The theme of the competition is “Building a Culture of Peace” in line with the National Peace Consciousness movement and with Rotary’s mission of promoting international peace, goodwill, and understanding. The VOICE FOR PEACE project is spearheaded by Rotary District 3850 Governor Edgar Sy and in Roxas City, it was headed by RTN Judy Solidum as Project Chair.
The format of the speech competition was based on the Toastmaster International’s Table Topics wherein a member is given an opportunity to develop the ability to “think and speak” quickly; to present one’s thoughts in a clear and organized manner with minimum preparation.
The 12 participants came from Capiz State University, Cong. Ramon Arnaldo High School, Our Lady of Grace Academy, Capiz National High School, Filamer Christian College, Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion, Panitan High School, Capiz State University-Pontevedra, and Cong. Luis R. Asis National High School.
The winners were: Don Wade Comoro (1st Place) of Capiz State University-Pontevedra (Principal-Ms. Ellen Subere) and coached by Louis Placido Lachica; Jenny Pearl Infante (2nd Place) of Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion (Principal-Fr. Glenn Baes) and coached by Anna May Candelario; Daniel Al B. Delfin (3rd Place) of Capiz National High School (Principal-Nestor dela Cruz) and coached by Mrs. Baruela and Mrs. Brillianes.
The judges who graciously accepted the tedious task of selecting the winners were PC Supt Josephus Angan, Donalee Deondo, Dale Bernas, Dr. Cesar Yap, Jr. and this writer.
The Rotary Club of Metro Roxas-Central, led by its President, RTN Dolly Buday, is grateful to the participating schools and their sponsors, patrons, donors: Governor Victor Tanco, Sr., City Councilor Carla Abela, Joc-joc Bolante, Board Member Evan Contreras, Espacio Verde, Pueblo de Panay, Lt.
