Sen. Zubiri checks on projects in Negros Occ.
BACOLOD CITY — Senate Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel “Migs” Zubiri visited the Province of Negros Occidental last week, to check on his projects being implemented in different local government units in line with his “One Town, One Project” Program.
Zubiri has distributed P1 M worth of projects to each of the 12 component cities and 19 municipalities of the province and left the authority to the LGUs to utilize the amount for a project.
During his arrival, Zubiri was welcomed by Vice Gov. Emilio L. Yulo, III, Board Members Patrick Lacson (3rd District) and Joven Alonso (4th District), Mayor David Lacson of E. B. Magalona, Councilors Tinto Bascon of Himamaylan City and Chino Coscolluela of Talisay City.
He first visited the Municipality of E.B. Magalona who had used the P1M to develop and improve the Wilkinson’s Social Court that is a venue for gatherings and other events in the municipality.
Zubiri was welcomed by the teachers and students of E.B. Magalona Elementary School and DepEd-Negros Occidental officers when he attended the Division Super Quiz Bee opening ceremony held at the school. He said that he was glad that the salary increase of 10% per annum for teachers was duly approved, for he believed that teachers are the key to the development of the country.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Manapla has purchased a dump truck worth P500,000 while the same amount was used to fund the day care center building and books to be used by the pre-school children in the municipality.
Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr. personally thanked the senator in his visit to Cadiz City. The city was able to construct a Martesan Bus and Tricycle Terminal, which is a tourist and environment-friendly stop over that includes a police assistance center, located along the highway of the city. It was a joint project of Sen. Zubiri, Cong. Alfredo Marañon, III, and Mayor Escalante.
He also visited the five-hectare jathropa seedlings located in Brgy. Tinampa-an in the city. He expressed gratitude for the support to the Republic Act 9367 or Biofuels Act of 2006 authored by him. (Capitol News)
