DILG marks 18th year of Local Gov’t Code
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Western Visayas and its partners mark today the 18th anniversary of the enactment of Local Government Code of 1991 by showcasing best practices in local governance in Western Visayas.
A DevTalk on Local Governance highlights the celebration where outstanding local government units will present their best practices in the areas of administrative governance, social services, economic development, environmental management and local legislation.
With the theme “The Philippine Local Government Code: 18 Years of Pursuing Excellence in Local Governance”, Director Marivel Sacendoncillo of the Local Government Academy will keynote the event’s opening at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
Rachel Bruneau of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will address the afternoon activity which will be highlighted by the launching of local governance toolkits separately developed in partnership with the German Technical Cooperation (GTC) and the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI).
Bruneau is senior development officer of the CIDA’s Indonesia, Philippines and South Pacific Program-Asia Branch.
To be launched at the Codification Manual developed with GTZ and the Urban and Regional Planning Learning Modules developed with CUI, and the casebook Building a Resilient Region: Collaborative Governance in Cities and Communities of the Western Visayas which documents 15 years of Philippines-Canada collaboration in the region.
The presentation of best practices will be lead by Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco (administrative governance), Mayor Eugenio Jose Lacson of Silay City (social services), Mayor Christine Garin of Guimbal, Iloilo (economic development), Mayor Julieta Flores of Miag-ao, Iloilo (environmental management) and Vice Mayor Delia Anacan of Kabangkalan, Negros Occidental (local legislation).
