Kabankalan to host history and culture confab
The Center for West Visayan Studies of UP Visayas in cooperation with the City Government of Kabankalan will hold its 20th Conference on West Visayan History and Culture on Oct. 22 to 25 in Kabankalan Ctiy.
The conference, to be participated in by social science teachers, students, cultural workers, tourism and information officers, aims to impart a broader knowledge and insights on the region’s history and culture and to provide a forum for scholarly interactions on issues and concerns of the region’s historico-cultural make-up.
The theme of the confab is “Prosperity, Fame and Adversity: The Many Faces of the Sugar Industry in Western Visayas.”
The speakers are Fernando Ballesteros of the Sugar Regulatory Administration, Dr. Cecilia Nava of Bacolod City, Rene Trance and Jerilee Pachoco Cameña, both of UP Visayas, Iloilo City; Christine Mae Sarito of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Talisay City; Prof. Chona Gosiaco of UNO-R, Bacolod City; Profs. Randy Madrid and Dominique Maquiran, both of UP Visayas, Iloilo City; Modesto Sa-onoy of KCOPSS, Bacolod City and Prof. Sarreal Soquiño of Filamer Christian College, Roxas City; Eric de la Vega of PD Monfort College, Dumangas, Iloilo; Errol Parpa of Bacolod City and Dr. Nemesio Cañete of Kabankalan Farmers Information Technology Center.
