Treñas tells police station chiefs: Become performers
“I am not hoping for them to become performers, but I am directing them to become performers.”
This was the strong statement of Mayor Jerry Treñas directed towards the chiefs of the six police stations under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) particularly the three newly-reshuffled officials.
The three police officials who assumed their new assignments are Chief Insp. Conrado Carganillo, Insp. Eliezer Baclagon and Sr. Insp. Federico Silvestre.
Carganillo replaced Baclagon as chief of police of precinct 5 (Mandurriao). Baclagon took over as chief of police of police precinct 6 (Arevalo) and Silvestre assumed as chief of police of police precinct 1 (City Proper).
Of the three officials, only Baclagon has a short stint in his previous assignment while Carganillo has served for more than three years as chief of Police Station 1 (City Proper). Unluckily, a robbery incident happened a day after his assumption as the new chief of Mandurriao Police Station.
Robbers carted away some P70,000 from a construction company in Hibao-an, Mandurriao. Two of the four suspects were identified by the police. They were Rolly Mutol Pacyu of Calumpang, Molo and Jose Rene Catekista Galindo of Cadamagmayan Sur, Sta. Barbara. They immediately fled after committing the robbery.
Treñas said he wants the city to be safe not only for the Ilonggos but also to the visitors. There should be checkpoints every night to deter the commission of the crimes in the city. The police auxiliary should be utilized in its proper purpose, he said.
The mandate of the newly deployed police auxiliary includes their utilization as force multiplier for the police; community mobilization and organizing; disaster and relief operations and information and intelligence gathering.
The mayor stressed the police auxiliary should not be used in any political purposes. They should be deployed on the field and they should not be made to work in the offices of the different police stations.
