City donates vehicles to ICPO
City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday turned-over five multi-cabs and two L-300 vans to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO). The donations are part of the continuing commitment of the city government to the police.
The five multi-cabs are for the use of the police auxiliary while the L-300 vans are for the Iloilo City Mobile Group (ICMG) and Waterfront Detachment. The turn-over was made during yesterday’s flag ceremony at the Robinson’s car park. It was received by officials of the ICPO.
The multi-cabs would be of great help to the newly deployed police auxiliary in the city. They serve as multiplier force to the organic members of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Currently, there are two duty shifts for the police auxiliary.
Treñas wants all the police auxiliaries assigned on the field. The hiring of police auxiliary is funded by the city government. Though only armed with nightstick, tear gas and handcuffs, the deployment of police auxiliary is deemed important in the fight against criminal elements and with the series of Basag Kotse and robbery incidents.
Part of the police auxiliary work is the information and intelligence gathering which is of value to the solution and deterrence of crime incidents. In case of disaster and relief operation, the police auxiliary could be mobilized.
The two L-300 vans will increase the mobility of the ICMG in conducting patrols in the different parts of the city. The waterfront detachment also needs a vehicle aside from the motorcycles already provided to them. The detachment covers several barangays at the waterfront which includes Monica, Veterans Village, Sto. Rosario-Duran, Concepcion and Gen. Hughes.
The creation of the waterfront detachment was primarily made several years ago to maintain peace and order in the waterfront areas. The additional van will increase the mobility of the police in responding to the calls of the citizenry.
Treñas is very supportive to the personnel and logistical needs of the city police in order for them to maintain peace and order.
Earlier, the series of unresolved crimes irked the mayor.
Prior to yesterday’s donation, the city government has donated patrol cars and firearms for the use of the city police. There are city cops who have no PNP issued firearms.
