Not much change in Iloilo City’s voting population—City Comelec
Though the City Commission on Election (Comelec) listed an estimated number of 35,000 to 40,000 new registered voters, Iloilo City still maintains its number of voting population according to Mr. Jonathan Sayno, city assistant election officer.
Sayno said though the satellite registrations they conducted in several areas of the city had helped them in their campaign for additional number of registered voters, still the city will maintain its voting population to that of 2007 Barangay Elections which is more or less 245,734.
Sayno explained that the number of new registered voters will only offset the number of deactivated voters which is more or less 39,000.
“The series of satellite registrations we conducted was a big help in our campaign for more registered voters that reach to around 35,000 to 40,000, however, the city will maintain its voting population since we also have a the bigger number of deactivated voters that reached to around 39,000,” Sayno said.
It was learned that the City Comelec started to conduct its voters’ registration on December 2, 2008 and ended midnight of October 31, 2009.
Sayno said by the second week of November, probably they could report a rough estimate of the city’s total registered voters since they will still be conducting an individual checking considering this will be the basis for printing of official ballots.
