Alay Lakad to showcase Capiceños generosity
ROXAS CITY – This year’s actual walk for Alay Lakad celebration on Nov. 18 will showcase again the generosity of Capiceños to generate more funds that will be used in helping another batch of out-of-school youth (OSY) in the province to become productive citizens.
The annual fund-raising project with the theme “Lakad Kabataan, Ituloy and Kaunlaran” is spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Roxas City with the support of various collaborating agencies.
Four walk groups coming from different assembly points will converge at the Villareal Stadium here to drop their respective contribution in alleviating the plight of the disadvantaged youth, especially OSY.
Each group will be composed of students, government employees, local government officials, non-government and socio/civic organizations.
A short program which will be highlighted with the oath-taking of new set of Alay Lakad Roxas City Chapter officers will follow after the participants have come together at the province’s premier sports arena.
Alay Lakad funds obtained from the actual walk will be channeled by the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development into pro-poor projects like capability trainings, livelihood projects and scholarships of beneficiaries.
The fund-raising project has already benefited hundreds of OSY in the province since 1991 through scholarship grants, livelihood programs, and trainings.
Alay Lakad was conceived by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in 1972 to produce awareness on the need to help OSY, the vulnerable sectors of the society who are young and without any economic or educational means to earn a living. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
