Parade of festivals to open tourism assembly
ROXAS CITY – A parade of various festivals in the region will kick off the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly (WVTA) on December 4 here.
The three-day assembly will be in time with the city and provincial governments’ Sinadya sa Halaran (SSH) celebration which culminates on the feast day of its Patroness Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception every Dec. 8.
“This will be two celebrations package into one,” said Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr. during a press conference for the upcoming assembly.
The parade will be followed with opening ceremonies at the Capiz Gym to be graced by the region’s local officials and government executives who are also in the province for the Regional Development Council (RDC) meeting.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Joseph Durano has been invited as guest speaker of the program.
The candidates for the Miss Western Visayas Tourism will also be introduced to the guests and onlookers of the program.
The pageant night will be on Dec. 5.
For his part, DOT Regional Director Edwin Trompeta invites the public to come and experience the attraction of the province and hospitality of Capiceños during the assembly.
The added attractions of the WVTA include travel fair and mart, tourism conference, cultural showcases, tourism awards, travel invitational and food festival.
The DOT-led activity seeks to provide a venue for integrating regional and local efforts at tourism promotion, recognize excellence by fostering showcase elements and tourism products and strengthen local government unit (LGU) and private sector commitments to local initiatives and efforts.
It also aims to facilitate learning and interaction with expert speakers on the National Tourism Act of 2009 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR). (PIA/A.Lumaque)
