Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries avail of Goat Dispersal Project
SAN JOSE, Antique – Farmer-beneficiaries of LANTAO Agrarian Reform Communities (La Union, Aningalan, Nagbangi, Tubudan, Agricula and Osorio) an upland community in San Remigio, Antique availed of Goat Dispersal Project.
Seventy heads of goats were given by the Office of Congressman Exequiel Javier of the Lone District of Antique to farmer organizations at 10 heads per barangay under LANTAO ARC. These barangays are suited for goat raising project because of its wide areas for pasture and abundant source of fodder.
Under the Department of Agrarian Reform policy on re-dispersal, each the farmer beneficiary are required to give back to the organization two female goats which will be re-dispersed to other farmers to ensure that all members of the organization availed of the project.
The goat raising project not only give additional income to the farmers so that they can send their children to school but also a big boost to food security program of the government particularly increase supply of meat for local consumption, said Gerardo A. Sandoy, Municipal Agrarian Reform Officer of San Remigio.
LANTAO ARC is one of the promising agrarian communities for agricultural development not just for meat production but also vegetable and high value crops.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agrarian Reform also conducted Technology Transfer on Vegetable and Fruit Processing Training to LANTAO ARC for farmers to acquire knowledge and skills in processing fruits and vegetables which are abundant in the area.
LANTAO ARC is presently making mixed vegetable pickles and was awarded as one of the Outstanding Product produced by the ARC during the CARP Week National Celebration last year.
