Leonardia still finalizing slate for 2010
BACOLOD CITY — Mayor Evelio Leonardia confirmed yesterday that Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) National Chairman Faustino S. Dy, Jr. vested him an authority under its Constitution and By Laws to nominate the party’s official candidates and likewise designate him also to appoint his allies for vice mayoralty candidate and candidates for city councilors.
Leonardia made this pronouncement yesterday after his close political rival Bacolod Lone District Representative Monico Puentevella launched recently their “MONOPA” team represented by his congressional candidate Renecito Novero and Atty. Ann Marie Palermo who is also running for vice mayor. Leonardia welcomed the move of his political rival but he was not surprised because the candidates mentioned was with him even before the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy started.
“We will make our own announcement, in due time, or after we finalize our schedule when to file our Certificate of Candidacy,” Leonardia said. He assured his supporters that they will finally file their COCs, but as of now, he cannot mention when because of the overflooded members interested to join their group.
Leonardia stressed that he is not bothered by the MONOPA team.
He did not comment yesterday as to the standing of Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. who is interested in running for Vice Mayor. Gamboa ran for Councilor in 2007 under “Grupo Progreso” of Mayor Leonardia.
