Maasin gets its first ever firetruck
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) yesterday turned over a brand new firetruck to the local government of Maasin, Iloilo.
Maasin Mayor Mariano Malones Jr. said he personally requested for a firetruck after their improvised water tanker which serves as the town’s firetruck was swept away by the floods brought by typhoon Frank last year.
Malones thanked the help of BFP Deputy Regional Director Julian Mandario, who hails from Maasin, and DILG regional director Evelyn Trompeta in making their dream of having their very own firetruck become a reality.
The firetruck, worth P7 million, was blessed and turned over in a simple ceremony held in front of the Maasin Municipal Hall.
Also present during the turn over were BFP regional director Sr. Supt. Maria Sofia Mendoza, BFP provincial director Supt Jose Filomeno Salolog Jr., Board Members Mariano Malones Sr. and Arthur Defensor Jr., Sangguniang Bayan members and several barangay captains.
Mendoza called on the local government of Maasin to take good care of the fire truck which would be of big help in times of fire and other calamities.
Mendoza said the BFP leadership with the support of the DILG is doing everything to acquire more firetrucks to be given to the various local governments in the country.
She said Western Visayas recently also received four brand new firetrucks and one second hand firetruck from Marikina City.
She also disclosed that the BFP regional office has acquired three units of rubber boats and they have already activated the BFP special rescue unit that could be used in times of flood or typhoons.
Mayor Malones expressed that the arrival of the new firetruck is very timely as the fire station they have put up is about to be finished by December this year.
