People’s congress gears toward good governance
Transparency, accountability and participation are the main objectives of the holding and institutionalization of people’s congress.
Governor Victor Tanco spelled out said objectives during the launching and first meeting of the Capiz People’s Congress last November 10.
Tanco stressed that said objectives are geared towards good governance which is one of the mandates of the Local Government Code.
He said that people’s participation is always necessary in order to achieve good governance particularly on public administration, social services, among others.
Tanco pointed out that the people’s congress, which will be every second Tuesday of the month, will be the venue to bring out various issues and concerns by the different councils and special bodies of the province which he chairs.
During the first meeting at the Capiz Gymnasium, some 17 provincial councils and special bodies respectively conducted a simultaneous meeting to discuss the different issues and concerns.
At the plenary session, Tanco personally answered said concerns after the representative from each council and special body had presented their respective issues. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
