Thanksgiving Thursday
Every last Thursday of November is traditionally observed as Thanksgiving Day. The Puritans who fled their homeland in Scotland to find new place in North America landed in Plymouth in 1620. The pilgrims arrived in the New Foundland after months of hazardous and dangerous voyage. The first thing the Pilgrims did was to thank God for reaching the promised land. Many of the Pilgrims were Anglicans or English religious affiliation.
Since then, the religious Thanksgiving Day has been celebrated by Christiandom all over the world. Puritan pilgrims and all Christians of the world cherish Thanksgiving Day as a hallow and divine day. Religious services both in the Catholic and Protestant communities joyfully observe as an act of saying to God thank you Lord!
God’s Power Fellowship in Iloilo City will observe their 22nd Year Thanksgiving Celebration with praise and worship to Almighty God. The solemn manifestation of God’s children will start at 6:00 p.m. at the YMCA Ecumenism Hall. Dr. Milagros Dignadice will give a brief message of Thanksgiving and the congregation will offer their best to the Master in songs, prayers and thanksgiving celebration. The Tulihaw singers will render melodious gospel to God.
Why should people especially the Christians give thanks to God? They may not be the descendants of the Plymouth Pilgrims but considering that Thanksgiving is set to get grateful thanks to God Almighty is meaningful and significant. Give thanks with a grateful heart; Give thanks to the Holy one; Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His son. Grateful people give thanks to the Lord because of what God has done good things for them.
We give thanks to the Lord not only on Thanksgiving Thursday but everyday of our life. When we wake up in the morning, sleep in the evening, we always say our prayer of thanks to God. Not only do we give thanks to God in times of abundance but also in times of adversity. That’s when people come closer to God for the forgiveness of their sins and trespasses. God wants to discipline His children who disobeys His commandments to come to Him closer than ever. God wants His children to worship Him in truth and spirit.
Thanksgiving is a celebration of God’s goodness to His people. Be thankful to God because He created us, heaven and earth and provided us with all the good things in life. Giving help to our unfortunate brothers and sisters in the Lord in in the form of thanksgiving. Church goers give their ten percent tithe to God from their income, business profits and other honest endeavors. In Biblical times, farmers, ranchers, merchants and other Jewish people give their unblemished cattle, first fruit of their harvest, income from business, etc. to God in His altar of tabernacle-house of God. Let’s all offer our sacrifice of praise and harvest to God in the course of our existence here on earth and God will be delighted to see your tithe, offering, and gifts to Him. Praise God on Thanksgiving Day!
